I Tested Talkspace For A Month – Here’s How It Can Help

by Dronile | Aug 18, 2020 | Health and Wellness

In college, before online therapy, I had my first counseling experience. In a small cramped office, I was met with a lanky, older gentleman. He invited me to tell him about my freshman year. From talking about imposter syndrome to family dynamics, the experience left...

A Change of Heart: 8 Ways to Start Healing from Trauma

by Dronile | Sep 1, 2018 | Health and Wellness

I begged God to kill me that night. I was laying on my parents’ couch ringing in the New Year and wishing for an end. Seeing trauma and abuse for what it is, comes and goes in waves. Like healing. Healing from trauma is not easy. It’s challenging to disentangle...

But online communities has opened a world of possibilities not just for me but for other #poc like me. I wasn’t born with a creative network or people who could teach me how to make my dreams a reality. Instead, the internet places all of that at our fingertips.
-
I remember the day a recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. They were looking for a #Copywriter and my skills were a right fit. I was cheesing for days! That’s when I realized how powerful sharing your work and using these digital tools could really be. Creatives, entrepreneurs, and artists of color have access to millions of readers, watchers, buyers, listeners around the world all because of little screens and free websites. Even if you don’t know the “right people” you can still leverage these to make change in your life and the lives within your community.

That’s why I’m excited to share these 5 tips (and some bonuses!!) on how you can beef up your #LinkedIn and start reeling brands, clients, hiring managers (you got it you name it!) to you. Change begins when you use everything at your fingertips to create the world you desire to see. Share your expertise, use these tools to build your dreams, and bring others along with you. Read all 5 tips on @blogher to find out how. Link in bio.

Eating for #health •• Anyone else notice a shi Eating for #health •• Anyone else notice a shift in their eating during this time? Stressful situations, like a global pandemic, can actually have huge effects not just on what we eat, but how we feel after we eat. Stress can wreak havoc on our digestion systems for example, especially when our routine changes and activity decreases. I noticed low-fiber foods, like pretzels and crackers, sneaking into my diet lately because they are easy and convenient to prepare. But my tummy hasn’t been very happy with those!

So, here’s what I’ve been swapping in instead: high-fiber goodies like #oatmeal, banana, fresh raspberries and all-natural peanut butter.

Why does this matter?

1. Well, if you suffer from IBS, often feel bloated, or struggle with digestion issues then #fiber can help ease some of those.

2. It’s also great for weight loss because it helps you feel full longer.

3. And, because you feel full longer you’ll have more energy throughout the day (just one of the perks of fiber, it’s slow digesting so it keeps your body working). 4. Plus, it’ll do wonders for your skin. Digestion issues can cause a build up of toxins in the body. Fiber helps clean those out!

This week, I’m challenging myself to make small swaps like this to make my tummy happy. That means trading in pretzels and crackers for a piece of fruit or sliced veggies and adding in more whole grains. Anyone else using this time to focus on their health? What changes or swaps have you made? Add your inspiring tips below!
